Using the Project as a guide for your own work

We know there are so many more stories to uplift and share through the Project. While we are focused on Sikhs who have some connection to California right now, we do hope to move beyond this geographical limit. But that does not mean other community members cannot begin this work on their own!

If you are interested in starting your own oral history archive on LGBTQIA+ Sikhs or other related topics for your own communities, please feel free to reach out. You can use the contact page or reach out to dr. kehal directly (qtsikharchive@proton.me). In the meantime, the entire website may be helpful to consult as you brainstorm different parts of your project.

We also share some of the formal documents that we made for our project in order for it to be consistent with the University of Wisconsin-Madison’s Institutional Review Board requirements over research. These may not be needed, necessary, or relevant to what you or your team have in mind, but we share them with the hopes of cultivating an honest, transparent, and ethical practice around doing research with LGBTQIA+ Sikhs.

Once the project has completed a few rounds of interviews, we will also share a public version of our potential question guide for interviews. For a summary of what is discussed in the interviews, review the pages on the projectadding your storiesthe FAQ, and the oral histories themselves.
