In June 2024, the Queer Sikh Network did a month-long initiative on their Instagram page (https://www.instagram.com/queersikhnetwork). In outreach, they shared that their goal in this initiative was “to spotlight queer and trans artists, creators, and blessed beings this Pride Month who are out here living their lives and inspiring others.” They asked for photos or existing posts form Instagram that could be reshared on their Instagram story, which auto-deletes after 24-hours of the initial posting time. In their posts, the Queer Sikh Network included a few descriptive words about the individual and the individual’s Instagram account handle at the time (June 2024).
After the initiative was over, the Queer Sikh Network converted these spotlights into a “Highlight” on their Instagram page, showing 44 queer and trans individuals across the world, the vast majority of which identify as Sikh. While we do not have each individual’s name, we do have their Instagram account handles, which are often based on their name in some form. We do not reproduce the Instagram account handles, though, since these may have changed since June 2024. In total, we share 45 posts in this collection: a title page, six pictures, and 38 videos.
